It's impossible to avoid negativity. In fact, by trying to avoid it you actually draw it toward you. Really, nothing is negative or positive... you just perceive it that way. You can never really know if an event is truly negative or positive until the story plays out and you see the outcome. In life sometimes that takes time.
Some of the most "negative" experiences in my life have led to some of the most wonderful things I have in my life today. "Negative" things are not something to be afraid of. In fact, something wonderful usually comes out of it. Sometimes things take time to unfold. However, you can rest assure, everything and everyone is just perfectly in their place and right where they are supposed to be. Every leaf and every tile. Every mother and every child. :)
Maybe sometimes you resist "negative" emotions. Sadness, loneliness, anger, or bitterness to name a few. These are not "negative" feelings. They are just feelings. The good news is that they pass. Sometimes things take time. Patience can be hard... but I find if I take the time to feel the feeling... how it effects my body... deeply just let it have its way with me even for a moment- it lightens and eventually passes. It takes less energy then fighting them and having them come back even harder with you later because you haven't dealt with them.
* "What you resist will persist" *
Maybe you can't handle being around "negative" people. Unfortunately this is unavoidable as well. The trick to negativity is that there is always some kind of positivity to be found in it. Someone close to you may be going through something they perceive as "negative". Therefor they are experiencing "negative" emotions that they need to feel and share. Its good to remember this happens to all of us at sometime or another. You can even get excited for this person! Through adversity comes strength and growth. Through overcoming obstacles and learning how to cope with negative emotions its possible to gain much inner peace and self esteem. There are many positive things that are gained through "negativity". When "negativity" is fought it fights back. When it met with compassion... it usually quiets down on it's own. Some things take time. When something "negative" occurs never forget there is at least 1 positive thing that comes from it. Try to always look for what you can learn from "negativity" and find that 1 positive thing... and therein lies the beauty of Positive Negativity. <3
Here's a little ancient story that was past on to me that I'd like to pass on to you :)
The Chinese farmer
There is a Chinese story of an old farmer who had an old horse for tilling his fields. One day the horse escaped into the hills and, when all the farmer's neighbours sympathised with the old man over his bad luck, the farmer replied, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'
A week later the horse returned with a herd of wild horses from the hills and this time the neighbours congratulated the farmer on his good luck. His reply was, 'Good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?'
Then, when the farmer's son was attempted to tame one of the wild horses, he fell off its back and broke his leg. Everyone thought this very bad luck. Not the farmer, whose only reaction was, 'Bad luck? Good luck? Who knows?'
Some weeks later the army marched into the village and conscripted every able-bodied youth they found there. When they saw the farmer's son with his broken leg they let him off. Now was that good luck? Bad luck? Who knows?
